Sample Unit 8

Impact Topics is a reading/listening/discussion course for beginners, based on 30 current topics that students like to discuss. The units are organized into five sets of six units: People, Men & Women, Relationships, Society, and Life (see Table of Contents).

The sample unit shown here, "Cyber Love", is about the current trend of people forming romantic relationships through on-line "chatting".

The sample unit is typical of all the units. It consists of a two page spread: the left hand page presents the story (which is also on the audio CD at the back of each book), with a "Getting Ready" section and some pre-listening questions. The right-hand page presents the discussion activities, What do you think? and Thinking about the Topic. There is a corresponding section in the back of the book for each unit, Sharing your Opinion and Expressing your Ideas, which presents language gambits for talking about the topic.
